Forest Area

The tract of the forest land is part of eastern extremity of Vindhyan range. It comprised of hilly and plain areas scattered throughout forest block of Dhanwar, Doranda and Jamua with overlapping ranges of Dumri, Bengabad and Giridih with Giridih East forest division, having gentle slopes but few hills. The hills area lower and generally with gentler slopes. The division forest are spread over the Centre and Western part of Giridih District and forests lie mainly on its undulating slopes.

The division contains a large portion of forested area & which is distributed almost uniformly all over. Sal is the most famous and predominant species of trees in the Jock of the district. Among other common species are bamboo, khair (catechu), salai, simul, mahua, palas, kusum, kend, asaa_piar and bhelwa.

It comprises of five forest ranges namely Parasnath ,Dumri, Giridih, Khurchutta, and Gawan.

Thorny species such as Gardenia, Carissa spp. and others are occur on fringes of Sal areas . At some places, Sal has been ousted by Palas. In large accessible areas of Jamua, the Sal forest has been reduced to shruby growth and the same has not improved due to heavy interefernce. Xerophytic species are also common in same patches due to maltreatment.

Wildlife

Wild animals are currently quite uncommon in this region. The peasants' outcry at the wild boar's destruction of their agricultural crops demonstrates that it is the most frequent animal.

While traversing the Dhanwar range of the region, elephant herdsregularly show their presence and cause damage to both private property and agricultural fields.

Tourism

The division encompasses places of spiritual significance which the locals held in high regard. The famous site of the areas are: Jharkhand Dham, Langtababa Samadhi, Surya Mandir etc.

NTFP

Minor forest produce are an important part of livelihood for people in the region. Kendu leaves in Doranda and Rajdhanwar range are sold regularly by way of auction by JSFDC. Also, mahua flowers are collected by people through out the region. Other than that, Mahulan bark is used for preparation of ropes, Also, Tanning bark was produced by from Asan and Kahua trees. Other than that, Myrobalans are also found in the areas.
